An alligator dragged a 2-year-old boy into the water near the Grand Floridian Resort at Disney World.

The father tried to grab the child from the alligator, but was not successful, Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said during press conference this morning.

Authorities this morning so far have taken four alligators out of the Seven Seas Lagoon to examine them and are continuing the search for the child.

This incident was reported to authorities about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday.

This is a rare occurrence, according to a representative from the Florida Fish & Wildlife.

The family is vacationing from Nebraska and was relaxing near the shoreline when the alligator attacked, authorities said.

“Everyone here at Walt Disney World Resort is devastated by this tragic accident,” a Disney spokesperson said. “Our thoughts are with the family and we are helping the family and doing everything we can to assist them.”

We will be providing updates as they occur.
