Time-lapse of artisans creating ‘Secrets of the Whales’ sand sculpture
Two artists spent 16 hours carving a new sculpture out of 40 tons of sand at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
The “Secrets of the Whales” sculpture features a sperm whale, humpback whale and a narwhal, all inspired from footage of the new National Geographic series that debuts on Disney+ starting April 22.
The sculpture, located on the Discovery Island Stage, is on display until April 30.
The four-episode series, executive produced by James Cameron, narrated by Sigourney Weaver, and featuring National Geographic Photographer and Explorer Brian Skerry, plunges viewers deep within the epicenter of whale culture. The film illustrates the intricate social structures of five different whale species: orcas, humpbacks, belugas, narwhals and sperm whales. The show was filmed over three years in 24 locations.
