Disney World is taking a baby step in loosening up its face mask policy. Starting April 8, 2021, guests will be allowed to remove a face covering when taking an outdoor photo.
When doing this, guest must remain stationary and maintain appropriate physical distancing when taking the photo, according to updated Walt Disney World face covering guidelines.
This change marks the first step in relaxing the face mask guidelines since they were implemented when the theme parks reopened in July 2020. The change coincides with the increasing number of people receiving vaccinations nationwide.
While this eases up the the photo requirement, face coverings still need to be worn all other times, including on rides
Face coverings are still required for all Guests (ages 2 and up) and Cast Members, including those who have received a COVID-19 vaccine.
Face coverings must be worn at all times, except when dining or swimming. “You may temporarily remove your face covering while actively eating, drinking or taking an outdoor photo (beginning April 8), but you must be stationary and maintain appropriate physical distancing during this time,” according to Disney.
All face coverings (whether disposable or reusable) must:
- Be made with at least 2 layers of breathable material
- Fully cover the nose and mouth and secure under the chin
- Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
- Be secured with ties or ear loops and allow the Guest to remain hands-free
At this time, based on guidance from health authorities, neck gaiters, open-chin triangle bandanas and face coverings containing valves, mesh material or holes of any kind are not acceptable face coverings.
The use of face coverings is not a substitute for physical distancing.
