7 more Disney Stores in 6 states closing by May 20

In March Disney closed 40 Disney Store’s in the U.S. and Canada, now it is saying it will be closing seven more stores by May 20.

Earlier this year, Disney announced it would be closing at least 60 stores in North America to focus more on its e-commerce business. On March 23, 40 stores were closed around the country.

“Over the past few years, we’ve been focused on meeting consumers where they are already spending their time, such as the expansion of Disney store shop-in-shops around the world. We now plan to create a more flexible, interconnected ecommerce experience that gives consumers easy access to unique, high-quality products across all our franchise,” Stephanie Young, president, Consumer Products Games and Publishing said at the time.

Now, according to the Disney Store website, seven more stores will be closing their doors, this includes the last Disney Store in Louisiana and two more in Texas.

While Disney would not give more specifics on why the closures now, it most likely coincides with leases set to expire.
