Disney hopes to reopen Disneyland at the end of April

Disney CEO Bob Chapek said he hopes to open Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure with limited capacity by the end of April.

The announcement came during the Walt Disney Co.’s annual investor meeting.

“While last week’s announcement stated that theme parks may open starting April 1, the fact is that it will take some time to get them ready for our guests this includes recalling more than 10,000 furloughed cast and retraining them to be able to operate according to the state of California’s new requirements.”

Cast members, he said, are excited to gt back to work. The reopening “is also good news for the Anaheim community which depends on Disneyland for jobs and business generated by visitors,” he said.

Chapek said to expect an announcement soon on a specific date.

New rules announced last week are allowing amusement parks in California to reopen starting of April 1.

The state divides all of its counties into four color-coded tiers based on the spread of the virus. The most restrictive is puple, followed by red, then orange and yellow. Limits on attendance are based on what tier the county is in.

Theme parks will not be allowed to reopen in the red tier at 15% capacity and only people who live in California can buy tickets. The orange tier increases the limit to 25% and the yellow tier increases limits to 35%.
