Cinderella Castle gets first Disney World 50th anniversary decoration

Overnight teams of Walt Disney World Imagineers placed the first decoration for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary on Cinderella’s Castle.

The embellishment features “a royal blue jewel with gold detailing and shimmering draping, Zach Riddley, Walt Disney World Site Portfolio Executive, Walt Disney Imagineering, wrote on Instagram.

“This is the first piece of the royal treatment that will adorn the castle for ‘The World’s Most Magical Celebration’ as we celebrate the 50th anniversary later this year. I cannot wait to see the castle transform in front of our eyes as our teams add more of the shimmering jewels and ribbons in royal blues and EARidescent golds on the turrets and towers of this beautiful castle,” he wrote.

Disney World kicks off is 50th anniversary celebration starting Oct. 1 and will be celebrating around all four parks for 18 months .

Riddley also shared a video explaining some of the work that will be done on the castle, incliuding how Imagineers developed new colors, gold detailing and vibrant hues after drawing inspiratoin from Mary Blair’s vision in “Cinderella.”
