Disney World still requires masks even if you’ve had the COVID-19 vaccine

Walt Disney World will require people who have received the COVID-19 vaccine to still wear face coverings on property and they have released new physical distancing rules for people visiting in large parties.

According to the Disney website,” face coverings are required for all Guests (ages 2 and up) and Cast Members, including those who have received a COVID-19 vaccine. Please bring your own face coverings and wear them at all times, except when dining or swimming. You may remove your face covering while actively eating or drinking, but you must be stationary and maintain appropriate physical distancing.”

Disney is following the current CDC guidelines on this. The CDC says that even if you have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine you should keep wearing masks. “Not enough information is currently available to say if or when CDC will stop recommending that people wear masks and avoid close contact with others to help prevent the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19,” the CDC writes on its site.

“Experts need to understand more about the protection that COVID-19 vaccines provide in real-world conditions before making that decision. Other factors, including how many people get vaccinated and how the virus is spreading in communities, will also affect this decision. We also don’t yet know whether getting a COVID-19 vaccine will prevent you from spreading the virus that causes COVID-19 to other people, even if you don’t get sick yourself,” according to the CDC.

In addition to the face coverings requirement, Disney has is now asking guests traveling in parties of more than 10 to split into smaller groups in queues, dining locations and other areas around our parks and resorts to better allow for physical distancing.

These measures make sense since for queues we have found that the 6-foot social distancing markers work best for parties of four and most dining locations can not accommodate more than six to a table.
