Disney halts contributions to lawmakers who opposed Biden certification
The Walt Disney Co. is joining a number of other corporations that announced it will not make contributions in 2021 to lawmakers who voted against certifying the Electoral College votes for President-Elect Joe Biden.
“The insurrection at our nation’s Capitol was a direct assault on one of our country’s most revered tenets: the peaceful transition of power,” Disney said in a statement. “In the immediate aftermath of that appalling siege, members of Congress had an opportunity to unite — an opportunity that some sadly refused to embrace.”
The votes by the 121 House and 7 Senate Republican members took place after angry supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol in an effort to stop the peaceful transfer of power. Five people died in the insurrection the send lawmakers into hiding and interrupting the initial Electoral Collect vote.
Disney joins companies like Amazon, AT&T, ConocoPhillips , CitiGroup, Comcast, Dow, Facebook, General Electric, JPMorgan Chase and UPS, who announced they were halting campaign donations.
