Disney testing mobile checkout at select Disney World shops
Disney is planning to again expand the use of mobile phones while on vacation. While you can now check-in and check-out of hotels, use your phone as a room key, make reservations and order food, Disney now wants to give guests the ability to shop and pay using your phone.
The test is now taking place at MouseGear in Epcot. The idea is no different from what some grocery or other stores have been using. This method provides you some freedom and makes sure no other person touches the items.
When you get to the store you can scan the QR code to get started or start on the My Disney Experience App and click to get started.
The process is simple. When you enter you pick up special checkout shopping bags, which are clear, so Cast Members can easily see them. Then you head off to shop. Scanning the items with your phone as you put them in your bag. Once complete you tap “Check Out.”
You’ll be paying with the credit card you have on file. For Annual Passholders, since your My Disney Experience App is linked to your pass, the passholder discount should automatically be applied. If you don’t have an annual pass, but want to use your Disney Visa to receive your discount, you will need to head to a register.
In addition, if you purchased items you want to be wrapped because they might break, you will need to head over to a cashier.
After you’ve tried it, let us know what you think?
