6 new things about Epcot we learned during D23 Fantastic Worlds event
The recent D23 Fantastic Worlds Celebration: EPCOT and the Magic of Possibility session with Melissa Valiquette, vice president of Epcot, revealed a number of new things coming to Epcot and two fun facts that many may not have heard of before.
Epcot is going through a major transformation and while the COVID-19 pandemic has pushed everything back and even placed a number of projects on hold for a while there is still a lot going on.
Here are some newly announced updates from the recent session:
- The new fountain in front of Spaceship Earth at Epcot, with the three acrylic pylons standing over 16 feet tall, will open by the end of the year with special lighting at night.
2. There will be a new nighttime lighting on the iconic Spaceship Earth.
3. Disney recently placed a few of the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind attraction vehicles on the track for what is called an initial “push/pull” test. Disney has not announced when the attraction will open.
4. The new nighttime spectacular planned for World Showcase Lagoon – “Harmonious” will be one of the largest shows ever created for a Disney park. The barges to be used for projections will also be huge. Instead of taking the barges in and out each day, they will act as fountains during the day on the lagoon.
5. Epcot cast members have nicknamed the construction walls around Epcot at “progress walls” to signify the progress taking place around the theme park.
6. Epcot has its own font – World Bold. It was created over 40 years ago when Disney was designing Epcot. The font has gone through a number of small changes as the transformation of Epcot takes place.
