A Disney Cruise in the future might mean taking this test to board the ship

The Cruise Lines International Association, of which the Disney Cruise Line is a member, announced this week that any cruise ship carrying more than 250 people must test everyone, including passengers and crew, for COVID-19 before boarding.

A negative test will be required for any embarkation, according to the announcement, which was released on Twitter.

We see testing as an important initial step to a multi-layered approach that we believe validates the industry’s commitment to making health, safety, and the well-being of the passengers, the crew, and the communities we visit our top priority,” the association said.

This decision is a travel industry first, the association said.

It is unknown whether passengers will be tested with a rapid test or a nasal swab test. It is also unknown if passengers will be tested just prior to boarding or days before boarding.

Last week, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced the extension of a No Sail Order for cruise ships through Oct. 31, 2020. This order continues to suspend passenger operations on cruise ships with the capacity to carry at least 250 passengers in waters subject to U.S. jurisdiction.

The Disney Cruise Line has suspended all sailings through mid-December.

“As we continue to refine health and safety protocols for our future return to service and await direction from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Disney Cruise Line has decided to further extend its suspension of new sailings.

“Sailings are canceled on board the Disney Fantasy through December 6; the Disney Dream and Disney Wonder through December 11; and the Disney Magic through December 12,” according to the Diney Cruise Line.
