Video: Hippo walks over to greet us at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

You never know what you might see when walking through Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The thousands of animals provide the perfect opportunity for something spontaneous to take place.

One of my favorite places to see the animals is the Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail. Along the way is the hippopotamus viewing area. Normally, the water is a bit murky, but on this day, the water was clear and a 3-yar-old hippo decided to come up to the windows and check us out.

Hippos spend most of their days in water to remain cool. They need to resurface every 3 to 5 minutes for a breath. They can eat about 88 pounds of food a day.

The name Hippopotamus comes from the Ancient Greek “river horse.”
