Rhode Island sent out tax refund checks signed by Mickey Mouse
About 176 tax refund checks from the Rhode Island Department of Revenue showed up in people’s mailboxes recently mistakenly signed by Mickey Mouse and Walt Disney.
While sending out live checks to people with those signatures was a mistake, finding Mickey and Walt’s signatures on checks in Rhode Island is not that unusual, a spokesperson for the Department of Revenue told WPRI.
You see the state uses the names “Mickey Mouse” and “Walt Disney” on dummy checks for internal testing. However, an error took place and the test-image files were mistakenly assigned to the real checks, the spokesperson said.
Normally, Rhode Island General Treasurer Seth Magaziner and State Controller Peter Keenan, names normally appear on the checks.
The checks, which were related to various business taxes, including sales tax, corporate and tax credit refunds have been voided and new checks are being sent out, according to WJAR.
