Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro talks Disney World reopening
Much of the technological advances implemented during Disney World’s reopening, such as the push to contactless payment, expanded mobile ordering, table service reservation and check-in, and electronic restaurant wait lists are probably here to stay, Disney Parks Chairman Josh D’Amaro said during a conversation with Roger Dow, President and CEO of U.S. Travel Association.
D’Amaro spoke to Dow about the reopening of Disney theme parks across the world some of the lessons learned, how the parks are still making changes as the openings progress and the pressure to keep all safe.
“The idea of people trusting Disney is a big deal. It’s a big responsibility, and I feel that weight on my shoulders and I know our leadership team feel that,” D’Amaro said.
When reopening, Disney focused on five areas:
- Health and wellness – limiting attendance, face coverings required, and temperature checks are some of the layers implemented.
- Enhanced cleaning
- Lean in toward technological solutions to limit as much contact as possible
- New training
- Working together – Disney doing its part for safety and Guests need to do their part in helping to physically distance and wear masks.
In addition, Disney is trying to stay nimble and agile. “Operationally, we are adjusting as we see people move around the parks in different ways, as we see them ingest some of our entertainment in different ways we’re adjusting,” D’Amaro said.
At this point, he has no idea when Disneyland will reopen. Disney has not yet been given any guidelines by the state. But, he said, when they are available, Disney will be ready to reopen.
