Florida moving to Phase 2 reopening on June 5, here is what it means

Bars, movie theaters, bowling alleys and other forms of entertainment will be able to reopen in the majority of Florida on June 5 as Gov. Ron DeSantis announced the state will move into Phase 2 of his three-step economic restart plan.

Standing on CityWalk at Universal Orlando, as annual passholders headed to the theme parks for a special preview, DeSantis said 64 counties will move to Phase 2 on Friday. Miam-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach, the hardest-hit counties by the COVID-19 pandemic will remain in Phase 1.

He did say if the counties come up with specific plans he would review them and move them into Phase 2.

DeSantis is encouraging people in Florida to avoid congregating in groups larger than 50. Those individuals 65 and older with underlying medical conditions are strongly encourage to avoid crowds and take measures to limit the risk of exposure to COVID-19.

He also said that the state university system will be providing its plan on June 22 about the future of colleges and universities for the fall semester.

Here is what Phase 2 means:

Restaurants: May allow bar-top seating with appropriate social distancing.

Bars and Pubs: May operate at 50% capacity inside and full capacity outside with appropriate social distancing. Patrons may only receive service if seated.

Retail: May operate at full capacity with responsible social distancing.

Gyms: May operate at full capacity with appropriate social distancing.

Movie theaters, concert houses, auditoriums, playhouses, bowling alley, arcades: May operate at 50% capacity with proper social distancing.

Pari-Mutel Facilities: May submit a request to reopen and must receive county approval and state approval.

Personal services: Places like tattoo parlors, acupuncture establishments, tanning salons and massage establishments may operate while adhering to guidance from the Florida Department of Health.
