Disneyland delays its July 17 reopening date
Disney is delaying the reopening of Disneyland and Disney California Adventure on July 17 after it said the state of California has not yet issued reopening guidelines.
Disney has not provided a new reopening date only saying that the State of California indicated it would not issue theme park reopening guidelines until sometime after July 4, according to the statement issued by Disney.
“Given the time required for us to bring thousands of cast members back to work and restart our business, we have no choice but to delay the reopening of our theme parks and resort hotels until we receive approval from government officials,” according to the statement.
“Once we have a clearer understanding of when guidelines will be released, we expect to be able to communicate a reopening date,” Disney stated.
Disneyland was supposed to reopen on its 65th anniversary. Disney’s Grand California Hotel & Spa and Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel will reopen on July 23. The Downtown Disney District will still reopen on July 9.
Disneyland and Disney California Adventure closed in mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This delay taking place is happening as the State of California recorded more than 7,000 new cases over the past day.
“I want to remind everybody that we are still in the first wave of this pandemic,” Gov. Gary Newsom said earlier today during a news briefing.
Disney is also speaking with numerous unions about cast members returning. Some cast members have raised concerns about the reopening of the parks due to the sharp increase in coronavirus cases.
