Disney World to start bringing back thousands of furloughed workers
Thousands of furloughed workers will start to be recalled to as the Walt Disney World Resort slowly starts to reopen, according to two unions.
In the next few weeks, food and beverage and housekeeping cast members are expected to return as at Disney Vacation Club resorts and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground are scheduled to reopen on June 22, according to Local 737 Unite Here.
In addition, full-time attractions and custodian workers and some part-timers will start to be called back from furlough as the theme parks are scheduled to start reopening on July 11, according to Local 362 Union President Eric Clinton.
About 8,000 people from his local could potentially go back to work, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
Clinton also told the Orlando Sentinel that the Disney College Program will not be resuming soon and there are no immediate plans for seasonal workers to return.
We also know that the Cultural Representatives program which was also closed in March with the Disney College Program will not be restated just yet and cast members will be staffing the World Showcase in place of the Cultural Representatives.
