Shanghai Disneyland to start phased reopening on May 11

Shanghai Disneyland theme parks will reopen in phases starting on May 11, 2020, Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Chapek said during the 2nd quarter earnings call.

The opening is taking place after the successful reopening of Disneytown, the adjacent shopping and dining areas.

“We will take a phased approach with limits on attendance using an advanced entry and reservation system, control guest density, using social distancing and strict government requirements,” Chapek said.

There will be new and enhanced health and safety measures reflecting the guidance of our local health and government authorities, including the use of masks, temperature screenings and other contact tracing and early detection systems, Chapek said.

Shanghai Disney Resort closed on Jan. 25 and partially reopened in March with the opening of some retail, dining, and entertainment experiences at Disneytown, Wishing Star Park and the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel.

There are no estimates on when any other Disney park would open.
