Shanghai Disneyland tickets for reopening sell out quickly

Tickets for the reopening of Shanghai Disneyland on May 11 are selling quickly. The first two days are sold out, according to the site, and some other reports state the first six of seven days are already sold out.

The Chinese government capped attendance of the re-opened park to 30% of capacity, or 24,000 people. However, The park will open far below that amount to allow the cast members to get used to new protocols and to monitor lines to make sure they are not excessive and social distancing is being observed, Walt Disney CEO Bob Chapek said during the company’s second quarter earnings call.

After a few weeks, Chapek said he anticipates going up to the 30% threshold.

Tickets for Monday, May 11, the first day the park will reopen through May 14 as well as the weekend of May 16 and May 17 were no longer available for purchase, according to Reuters.

Chinese third-party ticket vendor Fliggy said it’s allotted tickets for May 11 and May 16 sold out within three minutes, Reuters reported.

During Shanghai Disneyland’s initial reopening phase, it will institute new measures and procedures, including opening with limited attendance and required advance ticketing and reservations; accommodating social distancing in queues, restaurants, ride vehicles and other facilities throughout the park; and implementing increased frequency of sanitization and disinfection, according to the resort.

The Shanghai Disney Resort closed on Jan. 25 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and partially reopened in March with the opening of some retail, dining, and entertainment experiences at Disneytown, Wishing Star Park and the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel.

All of Disney’s other resorts worldwide remain closed. However, Disney has announced that Disney Springs, the shopping and dining area at Walt Disney World, will begin a phased reopening on May 20, with stores owned by third-party vendors.

The closed parks, according to Disney, cost the company about $1 billion in profits for the first three months of the year.
