Disneyland can reopen under California’s Stage 3 reopening plan
Disneyland theme parks can reopen during Stage 3 of California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s plan for reopening the state’s economy, the Orange County Register is reporting.
Disneyland, Universal Studios Hollywood and the other theme parks have been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Theme parks are considered to be among the “higher risk” businesses due to the large gatherings that take place. When reopening under Stage 3, there would be some capacity limitations placed on the theme parks initially, the state said.
This is similar as to what is happening in Florida with Walt Disney World. Orange County is awaiting Disney World’s reopening plan, before forwarding it to the Florida governor’s office for approval. The expectation is that Disney will limit capacity as it has done with the first phase of the reopening on Shanghai Disneyland.
No specific date has been set for when Newsom will implement Stage 3. However, Newsom has been allowing certain businesses to open in some counties.
On Tuesday, Newsom said that most counties in California will be able to reopen barbershops and beauty salons. He also said on Wednesday he will release guidelines on summer camps, schools, and child care facilities.
He also said he is working with the entertainment industry on guidelines that would allow production to resume.
