One of Disney’s most highly anticipated meetings is taking place May 5
One of the most anticipated webcasts by the Walt Disney Company will be taking place in 21 days – the fiscal second quarter 2020 financial results call.
While this might sound a bit boring, this will provide Wall Street, employees and fans of the company an idea of how one of the largest companies in the world is handling the COVID-19 pandemic, its true financial impact and what operational changes might be taking place in the future.
A large portion of the company is shuttered. As of now, with no theme parks, cruise lines, movie theaters or sports to program on ESPN, a major part of Disney is at a standstill. There is no way a company like Disney can just flip a switch and go back to normal.
An overwhelming percentage of the company relies on in-person experiences or in the case of ESPN, broadcasting those experiences. And, until a vaccine is found for COVID-19, it is unclear how and when Disney will be able to bring back those experiences safely to the levels it once had.
The coronavirus issue has become so dire that Executive Chairman Bob Iger, according to a recent New York Times article, has taken the reigns back to lead the company through this pandemic.
The earnings call will have a number of investors looking for answers, guidance and at the very least reassurance that Disney is assembling some sort of plan.
The live audio webcast will begin 4:30 p.m. EDT/1:30 p.m. PDT on May 5, 2020. You will be able to listen to the webcast at www.disney.com/investors.
