Did Disney just really announce when an attraction will open on shopDisney?
UPDATE: Disney has since removed the 2021 date from the description below.
It’s no surprise that Disney World plans to open Journey of Water, inspired by Moana, at Epcot. That was announced last year at D23 and it’s been part of the Epcot Experience showcasing what’s coming, but Disney has never given any indication when it might open.
Disney normally doles out information slowly (more like glacially) on its official channels of when attractions will open. First the year, then the season and finally a date. So far there has been nothing on when this attraction, that will “let guests interact with magical, living water in a beautiful and inspiring setting,” might open.
But a new limited edition poster on the shopDisney says the attraction will open in 2021.
“Celebrate the new aquatic adventure at the reimagined Epcot with this limited edition print promoting the forthcoming Moana-inspired Journey of Water walkthrough maze. Featuring the goddess Te Fiti from the 2016 movie, the poster is printed on archival paper and will whet your appetite for the attraction’s 2021 opening at Walt Disney World.”
The limited edition poster, only 100, is going for $90.
The future of which attractions under construction at Disney World will be completed is under question due to the closures and the economic hit Disney is taking due to coronavirus.
It looks as though this project, for now, will open.
