2 babies born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom this month

The first Hartmann’s zebra was born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom this year along with an Angolan black-and-white colobus monkey, Disney announced today.

A male Angolan black-and-white colobus monkey named Douglas was born on Jan. 15 to mom Zahra at Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail. Guests can catch a glimpse of the babe on the trail. Zahra and Douglas are in the first enclosure on the trail.

Douglas is the second of his family to be born at Animal Kingdom. His sister Alika was born in 2018.

On Jan. 21, a Hartmann’s zebra foal was born to mom Prima. The foal has not yet been named. This is the first time this zebra species has been born at Kingdom. Weighing in at about 65 pounds, the foal was standing and walking within 30 minutes of birth, according to Disney.

Unlike the colobus monkey, the Hartmann’s zebra is still bonding with his mother backstage. He will be introduced to the savanna in stages before joining the herd fulltime.
