Photos: Baby eland is born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom post-storm

A baby eland was born early this morning at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and had its first photos taken a few hours after birth.

Animals, Science and Environment Cast Members were taking care of the herd in preparation of Hurricane Dorian when this morning, a new member arrived.

The healthy calf was named Doppler in honor of its post-storm arrival. The gender is not yet known. Mom and baby are bonding. The team will conduct a neonatal exam in the coming days to get a gauge on the calf’s weight, height and gender.

The pair will remain backstage for the next several weeks before heading out onto the savanna.
