New Tomorrowland gateway sign debuts at the Magic Kingdom
The new gateway sign leading to Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World is up.
The large sign over the bridge is a simple bold design compared to former which contained what looked to be sci-fi elements. It is unknown if there will be anything added to the sign.
Tomorrowland has been getting a bit of an updated look with a white, orange and teal paint job during the past year.
The new entryway sign can may be signaling a change to the “vision” of Tomorrowland. When the land originally opened in 1971 it was designed to look at the “real” future, according to Disney.
Twenty-five years later the land was designed to showcase a “fantasy” world where robots do the work, planet-hopping rocket ships battle space aliens. Now 25 years later, for the parks’ 50th anniversary, the vision looks to be changing again.
In March, Disney CEO Bob Iger, when asked about Tomorrowland specifically said, “We’ve been working with the Imagineers to consider a number of different concepts for Tomorrowland. They’ve got some great plans that we’ve recently reviewed but nothing that we’re ready to announce at this point. Expect in the years ahead to be a lot of Tomorrowland activity. A lot of Tomorrowland activity, tomorrow.”
