How Disney World is changing how you vacation at the theme parks

Next year Disney will debut a new app designed to make planning easier and provide customized itineraries geared to your interests, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Bob Chapek announced over the weekend at D23 2019 Expo.

The new Disney Genie is scheduled to debut in 2020 and is being designed to help you make the most out of your visit, whether you’re a first-time guest or a seasoned pro, Chapek said.

While Disney has made the announcement of its existence there are still a number of questions such as does this replace the My Disney Experience app? Is this in addition to the app? Is this something Disney will charge for?

The only response from Disney on the Disney Parks Blog has been this: “We look forward to sharing more details on Disney Genie closer to its planned launch in late 2020, including how it will interact with the existing My Disney Experience and Play Disney Parks apps.”

Disney has said certain features of Disney Genie will also be available “through your preferred travel professional,” indicating that reservations will be able to be attached to this app from your travel agent.

The app will be designed to provide customized itineraries geared to your interests, – “from a royal, princess-themed day at Magic Kingdom Park to a trip around the world at Epcot for foodies and even a perfect day for thrill seekers,” Disney said.

And if you are not sure what you want to do, you will be able to tell Disney Genie what type of experiences you like and it will create a personalized itinerary. It is also flexibile. If you change your mind it will “re-optimize your day.”

The app, Disney says, will also help automatically make reservations for you once you decide on an itinerary.
