8 pictures you must take at Disney World’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
Everywhere you look around Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, there is something to photograph — the Millennium Falcon, the jagged rock formations with scraggly little trees growing from them, the pitmaster droid turning the mechanical spit at Ronto Roasters, DJ Rex spinning tunes at Oga’s Cantina.
But don’t forget that you’re a character in this story, too. So when you visit the new Star Wars land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, there are some photo opportunities you don’t want to miss. Here are our favorites:
Celebrate a rebel victory: Stop in front of the X-wing fighter in rebel-held territory. When you raise your arms in victory for the PhotoPass photographer — erm, I mean, holo image capture — your photo will show X-wings flying in the background.
Stand strong for the First Order: At the other end of Black Spire Outpost is the First Order stronghold, where a TIE Echelon ship has landed. Show your fierce side for the photographer and you’ll see three TIE fighters swooping behind you in the photo.
Be surprised by a porg: Outside Docking Bay 7 you can have your photo taken overlooking the Millennium Falcon in the background. If you put your hand out and look surprised, you may find that a porg has come for a visit.
Use the force: Any photographer around Galaxy’s Edge may ask you to give a Force push with your hand. It’s not a magic shot, but the photos turn out great.
Oga’s Cantina: Belly up to the bar here and you’ll notice it’s lit from beneath, which creates wonderful, warm lighting for a portrait (with or without a beverage on the bar in front of you).
Millennium Falcon: Just before you step into the cockpit, you have the opportunity to look around the Falcon a bit — and sit down at the dejarik table in what’s commonly called the “chess room.” You can take your time and grab a photo sitting at the table.
After dark: If you build (or buy) a lightsaber, be sure you wait around until after dark to get a portrait taken in front of the Millennium Falcon. Some of the photographers are better than others at capturing this tricky shot — some of our shots had too much flash — but you’ve got to try.
Interact with the natives: You’ll have the opportunity to mingle with Stormtroopers, pose with an Imperial officer, or even help a rebel evade the First Order. And keep your eyes out for Chewbacca, R2-D2, Kylo Ren and Rey. There are no “character meet-and-greets” here, only chance encounters with the locals.
