Orlando International Airport advises travelers to allow more time to pass through security

A recent change in security screening at Orlando International Airport has airport officials urging passengers to show up earlier and allow more time to get through check-in and through security.

The Transportation Security Administration has implemented enhanced passenger security screening procedures at the airport. The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority is now asking passengers to arrive at their airline ticket counters no less than two hours prior to their scheduled departure time, according to the airport’s website.

“Maintaining safety and security are always our priorities, however, we also have a major focus on customer service and convenience, which is why I feel it is necessary to inform our travelers to arrive early at Orlando International Airport,” Phil Brown, Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority said.

Allowing extra time will better enable passengers to locate parking, go through check-in and move through enhanced TSA security screening with the least amount of stress, Brown said.

To help expedite the screening process, the airport reminds travelers to remember to dispose of liquids prior to entering the security screening lines and should also be prepared to place all electronics into the bins for screening.

Passengers traveling on early morning and international flights, should check with their airlines about recommended arrival times.

The enhanced screening procedures for carry-on baggage which began last summer has now been rolled out to include all U.S. federal airports.

The new rules will require travelers to place all personal electronics larger than a cell phone in bins for X-ray screening in standard lanes.

In addition to screening personal electronic devices separately, including laptops, tablets, e-readers and handheld game consoles, TSA officers may instruct travelers to separate other items from carry-on bags such as foods, powders, and any materials that can clutter bags and obstruct clear images on the X-ray machine.

Travelers enrolled in TSA Pre✓ will continue to experience expedited screening by not having to remove shoes, the 3-1-1 liquids bag, laptops, light outerwear jackets, or belts, but some of the new procedures may apply if directed by TSA officers.
