Marvel’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge comic takes us inside Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities

The first installment in the five-part Marvel comic series Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, which is out today, takes us on a limited tour of Black Spires Outpost on the Batuu, spending most of the time giving us a backstory to one of the items we hope we will be on display in the new land.

The comic series is the official tie-in to the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge lands opening on May 31 in Disneyland and Aug. 29, 2019, at Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World.

As the story starts we get glimpses of the streets with a hawker selling Ronto Wraps from Ronto Roaster, which guests will be able to purchase in the new land. We also see the purchase of the non-alcoholic Meiloorun Juice, which will also be available for purchase.

We quickly learn two things. First, the residents of Batuu are called Batuuans. Second, the big bad threat that is coming to the outpost is the “Red Fury.” The Red Fury, according to interview with Scott Trowbridge, the Imagineering Creative Executive in charge of Galaxy’s Edge, is an elite First Order squad. What they have planned, and what they are going to do to smoke out the Resistance is probably something that will be an ongoing story in the new land.

The majority of this issue gives us the back story of one special item in Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities, which we all most likely will find when visiting – a baby sarlacc.

A sarlacc is a mutli-tentacled beast that first appeared in “Return of the Jedi.” Remember, the pit Jabba the Hutt dropped Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Chewebacca into. That was a sarlacc.

The Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge comic illustrates the tale of how Han Solo and Chewbacca go off world to procure the sarlacc for Dok-Ondar.

Next month’s issue focuses on a special object – a long-lost lightsaber. It will be Greedo’s job to grab it.
