Hollywood Studios 30th anniversary celebration lineup announced
Walt Disney World’s celebration of Disney’s Hollywood Studios 30th Anniversary will take place May 1, 2019, with a star-studded cavalcade, a special button and merchandise and the debut of a new nighttime projection show.
The park has had a number of banners touting the special 30th anniversary for a few months now. Disney World’s third theme park opened on May 1, 1989, as Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park. Disney licensed MGM. The original park was a theme park and production studio, but over time the production aspect withered away.
Here’s a look at what’s happening at the park for its celebration:
- A Star-Studded Celebration – A cavalcade starring Mickey and friends will step off at 10 a.m. and will head down Hollywood Blvd.
- Commemorative 30th Anniversary Guide Map & Button – Guests entering the park can grab a special 30th-anniversary commemorative guide map and button.
- Exclusive 30th Anniversary Merchandise – Special 30th-anniversary merchandise will be unveiled on May 1, including a new adult T-shirt, baseball cap, Tervis 24-oz tumbler, MagicBand, ornament and much more. Annual passholders can also shop for some items exclusively created for them. Merchandise can be found starting at 8 a.m. in Grand Park, while supplies last. (Merchandise will go on sale at 8 a.m., Disney’s Hollywood Studios opens at 9 a.m.)
- Special Food & Beverage – A number of special anniversary food and beverage items will be available throughout the park, including Kylo Ren Cupcakes, Incredibles Macarons, Tres Leches Verrine and many more.
- Debut of “Wonderful World of Animation” – The park’s new nighttime projection show on the façade of the Chinese Theatre is unveiled. This will be a tribute to animation with sequences celebrating themes like magic, family, adventure, romance
and friendship. Each theme is brought to life through films such as “Sleeping Beauty,” “The Incredibles,” and “Coco” The show will debut at 9:05 p.m. ET, just prior to the park’s “Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular” fireworks show.
Disney is offering a specially-ticked Disney After Hours Event Night that in addition will have faster access to rides will have Disney characters ready to greet guests in the Chinese Theatre Courtyard, at Star Wars Launch Bay and more. There will also be a special encore performance of “Wonderful World of Animation” taking place exclusively for event attendees.
The cost is $125 for the event. There are Annual Passholder and DVC discounts available.
