11-year-old Orlando boy will run 5K at Star Wars Rival Run Weekend, marking milestone in battle with cancer

The Star Wars Rival Run Weekend takes place this weekend, April 4-7, 2019, at Walt Disney World and there are numerous inspiring runners participating. One is 11-year-old Daniel Roberts from Orlando.

In 2017, Daniel was diagnosed with bone cancer that led to 37 weeks of chemotherapy and the surgical removal of his right leg.

After being fitted for a lower leg prosthetic, he started physical therapy to relearn how to walk.

Last year, Daniel’s physical therapist took the him to the expo at the Star Wars race and Daniel became inspired. He wanted to run the race on his own.

On Friday, Daniel will run his first-ever 5K race, a major milestone in his battle with cancer.

The weekend races include Kids Races, a 5K (on Friday), a 10K (on Saturday) and a half marathon (on Sunday). There is also the runDisney Health and Fitness Expo.
