The must-see sculpture at the 2019 Epcot Flower and Garden Festival

This year’s Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival has one sculpture that is not only beautiful, but will make you think about your trash.

The 9-foot tall sculpture featuring adult and baby Adélie penguins is not made from the trees and shrubs we are used to at the festival, but from recycled marine debris.

Every piece of plastic trash used for this was purchased by someone who purchased the item and improperly discarded the item, according to Washed Ashore.org, a non-profit organization whose mission is to create works of art that are designed to inspire people around the world to keep oceans and waterways clear of plastic pollution.

The sculpture is based on Disneynature’s new feature film “Penguins” being released April 19. The movie is a coming of age story about an Adélie penguin named Steve who joins millions of fellow males in the icy Antarctic spring on a quest to build a suitable nest, find a life partner and start a family.

Take a close look at the photos. What do you recognize? Can you find the plastic strainer spoon you would find in a kitchen on the top of the adult penguin’s head? Or the golf balls?
