Photos, Video: Story of ‘Coco’ lives on at Epcot

To all of those who know and love the movie “Coco” – and even those of you who have not seen it – “The Story of ‘Coco'” now being performed by Mariachi Cobre at the Mexico Pavilion in Epcot is a must see.

The mariachi band, which performs a half-dozen times throughout the day, debuted this performance on the first day of the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival and will perform it a few times a day.

The band, with two folklorico dancers, re-tells the story of 12-year-old Miguel from Santa Cecilia, Mexico and how despite his family’s generations-old ban on music, young Miguel dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol Ernesto de la Cruz.

Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the Land of the Dead. After meeting a charming trickster named Héctor, the two embark on a journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.

Performing the songs from the film, Mariachi Cobre brings its own interpretation to the story and its lovely and heartwarming. During the performance, some of the smaller kids in the front are called on to dance with the group. And there is a surprise at the end. You do get to see Miguel performance.

Here are some photos. At the bottom is the full performance, for those who won’t be able to make it to Epcot for a while.
