Panasonic working with Disney on Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
Panasonic announced that it is working with Disney to help transform a two-dimensional cartoon into a real-world experience for the upcoming Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway attraction at Hollywood Studios in Disney World.
The new attraction is scheduled to open in Fall 2019 where The Great Movie Ride was located. According to Disney, “The fun begins when you see the premiere of a new cartoon short with Mickey and Minnie preparing for a picnic. As they head out, they drive alongside a train and find out that the engineer is Goofy. Then, one magical moment lets you step into the movie and on Goofy’s train for a wacky, wild ride.”
The visual requirements of “Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway attraction require imaging systems that meet the highest technical requirements of precision color rendition and brightness. Panasonic’s laser illuminated projectors do that extremely well,” Tom LaDuke, Principal Show Systems Designer, Walt Disney Imagineering, said in a news release.
In 2016, Panasonic became the “Official Projection Technology” of Disneyland and Disney World. As part of this long-term agreement, Disney Parks have access to the latest in Panasonic’s market-leading projectors with advanced image processing and lens solutions.
“We are pleased to have the opportunity to once again provide Panasonic’s cutting-edge projection technology for a new Disney Parks attraction, especially for the first-ever ride-through Mickey Mouse attraction,” Ron Martin, director, Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory, a unit of Panasonic Corporation of North America, said.
