Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy at Hollywood Studios to use new storytelling devices, technology

The new Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy opening March 31 at Hollywood Studios in Disney World will contain some new storytelling devices, according to Jay Ward, Creative Director, Pixar Cars Franchise.

In a brief video, promoting the new attraction, Ward talks about people will be able to “meet McQueen in person, talking to the audience, interacting with them” and telling them his tricks,” Ward said.

It’s “the first time we’ve ever had an intimate experience in a theater like atmosphere,” he said.

Guests will be enveloped by a two-story tall wraparound screen that is more than 200 feet from end to end. And there is all new animation coming to this attraction, Disney previously announced. All of Lightning’s friends, including  Tow Mater and Cruz Ramirez will be on hand.

No more specifics have been released. On the face of it, the attraction sounds like an amped up version of Turtle Talk with Crush at Epcot in which a 2-D Crush interacts with kids. This sounds like it would be a physical Lightning McQueen car interacting with guests. Perhaps similar to what is seen on Radiator Springs Racers in Cars Land at California Adventure?

Either way, according to Ward “There’s plenty of humor fun and action, and good messaging on what it’s like to work together as a team.”
