Baby giraffe born on Kilimanjaro Safari Savanna at Animal Kingdom

A baby Masai giraffe was born today at Animal Kingdom on the Kilimanjaro Safari Savanna with some guests catching a glimpse of the birth.

The calf was born around 2 p.m. to Mara, according to Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment Facebook page. The baby stands 6 feet tall. The gender is still undetermined.

Most calfs that are born can stand 30 minutes after birth and usually weigh in around 220 pounds.

Some guests posted on Facebook and Twitter that they were on one of the safari trucks as the birth was starting. “Was on the safari this morning and she was laying down…. heard the trucks radio telling others not to go near,” one guest wrote.

Other said they saw the start of the birth with the legs sticking out. If you look closely at the video below you are able to see the legs.
