Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back parkas recreated, going on sale

Columbia Sportswear is releasing a limited edition Star Wars Empire Crew Parka on Dec. 7, 2018, inspired by the original parka worn by cast and crew in Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back.

If you remember, the movie starts off on the ice planet of Hoth, which was filmed in the frigid wilderness of Norway. To survive the sub-zero temperatures the cast and crew needed winter gear to keep them protected.

Columbia Sportswear recreated the crew parkas, complete with special patches sewn on to the jackets. The parkas feature a waterproof, breathable and critically seam-sealed outer layer to protect against the elements, while the Omni-Heat thermal reflective lining and insulation.

It includes an adjustable hood with removable faux-fur trim, two-way collar, ribbed comfort cuffs, wrist zips and multifunctional pockets. The unisex style sells for $500.

The parka will be available starting at 12:01 am EST on Dec. 7 online and in-store (during retail hours) at select Columbia-branded retail locations in the U.S., Canada, Europe, China, Hong Kong, Japan and Korea.

And if that wasn’t enough select U.S. stores will carry a handful of parkas signed by Mark Hamill – that is Luke Skywalker himself. The signed jackets are being sold for $1,980. All proceeds of that sale will be donated to charity.
