Closed for close to a year, Liberty Square Riverboat scheduled to reopen
Closed for refurbishment nearly a year, the Liberty Square Riverboat at the Magic Kingdom in Disney World is scheduled to finally reopen on Dec. 22, 2018.
Tom Sawyer Island, which was closed due to a portion of the Rivers of America being drained for the refurbishment, will also reopen on Dec. 22.
Guests will once again be able to board the Liberty Belle,
An actual working steam engine converts the water from the Rivers of America into steam that in turn powers the large paddle that propels the Liberty Belle.
The 47-foot tall riverboat is comprised of four decks:
• Pilothouse: Also known as the top deck, features the wheelhouse and Captain’s Quarters.
• Promenade Deck: Includes a salon and a collection of vintage photos and maps.
• Texas (or Sun) Deck: The perfect place to catch some rays as you float down the river.
• Main Deck: Includes the boiler and pistons that run the paddlewheel.
