The first Mickey Mouse magazine

One of the many merchandising products created for the young Mickey Mouse was a magazine.Mickey Mouse debuted on Nov. 18, 1928, and became popular overnight. While the shorts did well, real money would be coming in on merchandise. In 1932, Walt and his brother, Roy O. Disney, sought out the help of Herman “Kay” Kamen to market Mickey and help with the young studio’s cash flow.

Kamen accepted the deal and helped propel Mickey with a strong of merchandise, including the Mickey Mouse Magazine in January 1933.

The magazine contained short shorties, articles, games, and poems, according to D23, the official Disney Fan Club. The magazine was distributed mostly through movie theaters and department stores.

A second version started printing in November 1933 with partnerships from dairies. The dairies printed their names on the cover and they distributed the magazine. The magazine over the years went through a variety of changes. The last edition of the Mickey Mouse Magazine was in September 1940.
