Photos: Inside the re-imagined World of Disney at Disney World
The same day Disney announced the official grand re-opening of the World of Disney store at Disney World, the newest renovated section opened its doors to the public. A small part of the store was closed off
We headed on down to Disney Springs to get a look around. And yes, it did have that new store smell.
The store pays homage to both of Disney’s great animation studios: Disney’s original Burbank studio and the Pixar Animation Studio building in Emeryville, Calif. The brick and the exposed beams mirror the Pixar Studio building, and the typeface used in the “cashier” sign (and perhaps elsewhere) can be found at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, Calif.
The counters in the checkout area are designed to resemble animation tables and storage cabinets. All around the store are easels with drawings of various Disney characters, plus a sculpture of the famed Pixar Lamp. The drawings are associated with the merchandise sold around them.
So, where’s the magic? In the future there will be projections on the ground and on the walls. In two areas, the projectors are already in place.
The final work on the store is taking place around the back wall of the area that has been open for the past couple of months. The store will have its grand opening — complete with balloons and plenty of cupcakes, we’re told — on Oct. 27. Here’s the look around.
