Major update on new Tron attraction at Magic Kingdom
Two rides at the Magic Kingdom will be closed for a portion of 2019 as construction work takes place for the new Tron attraction.
Disney unveiled a new billboard in Storybook Circus, showing off the upcoming Tron ride that is scheduled to open in 2021.
Construction of the new ride, next to Space Mountain, will cause the Walt Disney World Railroad and the Tomorrowland Speedway to close for a time as modifications take place, according to the Disney Parks Blog.
The Walt Disney World Railroad will halt its grand circle tours of the Magic Kingdom and temporarily be located at the Main Street Station starting in December 2018. During this time, guests will be able to get an up-close look at the railroad and take advantage of one-of-a-kind photo opportunities.
The Tomorrowland Speedway will close for a portion of 2019, as the attraction’s track is adjusted. It will reopen in the summer of 2019.
The Tron attraction is scheduled to debut in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary in 2021, It is based on TRON Lightcycle Power Run at Shanghai Disneyland.
The coaster-style attraction allows riders to board a train of two-wheeled Lightcycles for a race through the digital frontier. TRON Lightcycle Power Run debuted on Shanghai Disneyland’s opening day.
