7 insider tips about the new Lamplight Lounge at California Adventure

The Lamplight Lounge opens its doors on June 23, 2018, as part of re-imagined Pixar Pier at California Adventure park at the Disneyland Resort.

In addition to the food table service, gastro-pub-style cuisine, it is the restaurant’s decorations which might get most of the attention from the guests.

According to Disney, there are some “confidential” stories on its walls. “Visitors will discover many unique artistic details that the ‘regulars’ of Pixar have left scattered throughout the establishment. From sketches on coasters to concept art and memorabilia on the walls, the decoration at Lamplight Lounge reveals seven confidential facts about Pixar.”

1. The first artistic sketches.  Part of the decorations are the first artistic sketches from various Pixar films on a chandelier dangling from the ceiling. The sketches and phrases come from several movies,  including “Coco,” “Finding Nemo,” “The Incredibles,” and more.

2 .The movie shirts. When Pixar puts a film in production they create and wear shirts that celebrate the film. The shirts on display are a way of celebrating an achievement, a humorous reference, or even an inside joke. You will also see the large number of departments it takes to make a Pixar film.

3. The conference table. A conference table at Pixar Animation Studios includes the molds of the toys that were created for the Disney- Pixar film, “Cars.” There is a table inside the restaurant that is a replica of that conference table.

4. A story behind each toy. Above the “Cars” table, diners will notice shelves with toys that have come directly from the files of Pixar. Below the shelves are examples of comments and notes exchanged between Pixar and its manufacturing partners to ensure that the final product is as close as possible to the film. Each toy goes through several stages of notes in various forms, including drawings, creative criticism, and even video conferences.

5 .Easter eggs. The hidden surprises you find in Pixar films has translated to the beverage menu. The Park Ave. (alcoholic beverage), refers to the name of the street where Pixar Animation Studios is located in Emeryville, California. Goofball Island (without alcohol), is one of the islands of Riley’s personality in the film “Inside Out”.

6. Research papers. The research and development process is a huge part of making a film. Some of these items will be found on the Lamplight Lounge art wall, including conceptual art, reference materials, pieces and physical versions of the film’s artifacts, including “WALL • E”, “Toy Story” and “Ratatouille”.  Take a look at the Bing Bong drawing in the “Inside Out” area. When the Bing Bong drawings began to look too much like the work of adults trying to draw as children, Pixar artists sought the help of a 7-year-old daughter of a Pixar employee.

7. Handwritten notes.  Sure, we e-mail and message a lot, but Pixar still uses handwritten notes during the creation process. These notes appear in the Lamplight Lounge. For example, in the sketch of the chandelier and in the hallway leading to the restrooms, visitors will find some of the iconic phrases from the Pixar films that were hand-written by Pixar employees. One that movie fans will find familiar is: “WHERE. THIS. MY. SUPER. SUIT ?! “, from” The Incredibles “.
