Fire-breathing dragon catches on fire at Disney World parade
The fire-breathing dragon that’s part of the Magic Kingdom’s Festival of Fantasy daily parade caught on fire itself Friday afternoon.
No injuries to employees or guests were reported and the fire was quickly extinguished, a Disney spokeswoman said. Video taken by guests shows that a fire extinguisher quickly put out the flames. Disney is still investigating the cause of the incident.
The fire took place in the Liberty Square area of the park near to the Ye Old Christmas Shoppe and the Sleepy Hollow quick service area.
The steampunk-inspired Maleficent Dragon is 53 feet from snout to tail. As it rolls down the parade route in chase of Prince Phillip, the dragon occassionally raises its head and shoots out fire into the air. One cast member rides inside the dragon near the base of the neck while another manipulates the tail in the back.
