9 things to look forward to at Disney World this May

Spring kicks off this May at Walt Disney World with a number of new experiences opening during the month, as well as the end of the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival.

The month will see the debut of a new Disney store at Disney Springs, a new Donald Duck experience and a special Star Wars night. It all starts off with a welcoming event that you can even experience at home.

Here’ s a look at the nine big things happening at Disney World in May 2018.

May 1: Live stream from Magic Kingdom

Start the month off with a sunrise Disney service. The Disney Parks Blog will live stream the Magic Kingdom during sunrise in honor of May Day, the first day of May which is known to celebrate the change of seasons and officially welcomes the spring. This takes place on the Disney Parks Blog at 6 a.m. Eastern Time.

May 1: The Bourbon Trail opens

Disney Springs, known for its popular Christmas Tree Trail during the holidays, is debuting a more adult version this spring – a Bourbon Trail. At 18 locations throughout the dining/entertainment/shopping complex at Walt Disney World, those ages 21 and older will be able to sample special bourbon-inspired beverages and food pairings. The Bourbon Trail will kick off May 1 and last through June 17, 2018.

May: DisneyStyle opens

This new shop opens on the West Side of Disney Springs. It will be the destination for fresh and stylish apparel and accessories inspired by Disney attractions and Disney characters.

May 1-28: Epcot Flower and Garden wraps up

This is the last month for the  25th Annual International Flower & Garden Festival and there is still plenty to do and see.

May 4-7: Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone “I’m Henry VIII I Am”

May 11-12: Village People “Y.M.C.A.”

May 18-21: The Guess Who “American Woman”

May 25-28: The Spinners “Working My Way Back to You”

May 3: Limited edition go on sale in Disney World

Cinco de Mayo, Nurses Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Graduation and Teacher’s Day are just some of the themed limited edition Disney pins being released in May 2018 at Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

The release dates for the pins are May 3, May 4, May 10, May 17 May 24 and May 31.

May 18: Incredibles sneak peek starts running

The first 10 minutes of the newest Incredibles movie, “Incredibles 2” will take place at Walt Disney Presents Theater at Hollywood Studios as part of this sneak peek.

May 25: Donald’s Dino-Bash opens

The new Donald’s Dino-Bash meet and great area opens in Dinoland USA at Animal Kingdom.

The idea is that Donald recently found out that his ancestors were actually dinosaurs. And to mark this unexpected discovery, he’s transformed the land into a celebration for all.

In addition to Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, Launchpad McQuack and Chip ‘n Dale will be on hand in dino-inspired costumes.

May 27: Star Wars Galactic Nights

This specially-ticketed event is held from 7 p.m. to midnight at Hollywood Studios and celebrates the Star Wars saga with entertainment, special photo ops, exclusive merchandise and encounters with rarely seen characters. This event will feature exclusives from the new movie “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”

May 30: Moonlight Magic for Typhoon Lagoon

Disney Vacation Members will have the opportunity to have a late night at Typhoon Lagoon from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. as part of the vacation club’s moonlight magic program.

The late night includes access to select attractions throughout the park, with shorter-than-usual wait times, meet-and-greets with unique Characters, a DJ dance party and complimentary refreshments.

Advance registration for DVC Members with Resort reservations is full. But May 3 opens the registration up to all members. More information is available here.
