19 things we know for sure about Toy Story Land at Disney World
In less than 100 days, Toy Story Land will open at Hollywood Studios in Disney World.
This new 11-acre land is designed to make guests feel like they have shrunk to the size of a toy. The setting is Andy’s backyard from Disney-Pixar’s “Toy Story” franchise. There, you will find Andy’s toys— Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the gang—plus two all-new attractions, one expanded ride, and a new quick-service restaurant.
Toy Story Land will also celebrate classic games and toys such as Crayons, Rubik’s Cubes and Cooties. There has been a lot written in anticipation of the opening, so to help everyone out, we put everything we know for sure about Toy Story Land in one place.
Here are the 19 things you should know:
The Land
1. The new land officially opens June 30, 2018.
2. Disney will expand Hollywood Studios’ Extra Magic Hours in July to help as many people see the new area as possible. The extra Extra Magic Hours will happen every day in July from 7-8 a.m. Park hours for the month of July will be 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Extra Magic Hours are available for guests staying at Disney World Resort hotels and select other hotels. It gives those guests the opportunity to enter the park and ride select rides one hour before the theme park normally opens.
3. As you enter Andy’s backyard, you will feel as if you are the size of Andy’s toys, and you will be able to take in the entire land all at once. All of the toys and characters will be in view from the entrance.
4. All of the grasses and planting are proportional to make you feel as if you are the size of a toy.
5. A 20-foot-tall version of Woody will greet everyone as they enter the land.
6. Andy’s footprints can be found in the backyard, and they are big. One footprint is about 25 feet long, or a size 240 shoe.
7. More than 400 toy blocks fill the backyard.
8. The lampposts will look like Tinkertoys.
The rides
9. An entire new entrance is created for the current Toy Story Mania! attraction. The plotline is that guests walk under and over toys that make up what Andy calls the “carnival under his bed” as you head to Andy’s room to play Toy Story Mania, taking aim at 3D objects—using everything from baseballs to creampies—in a variety of fast-paced games. Go for the high score to get bragging rights.
10. Across from Toy Story Mania is the Alien Swirling Saucers ride. The plotline is that Andy won this game at Pizza Planet. The game features dozens of three-eyed aliens spinning through the Universe of Pepperonia, and you go along for the ride. On the ride you pass Pepperonia planets and Pizza Space Stations while “The Claw” hangs overhead.
11. Guests must be 32 inches or taller to ride Alien Swirling Saucers.
12. The Slinky Dog Dash is the big roller coaster. Andy assembled his Mega Coaster Play Kit and combined it with a number of other toys to create a special adventure. To ride the coaster you board Andy’s trusted Dachshund friend, Slinky Dog. Slinky Dog bends and twists his coils around curves, hills, bridges and drops as riders zip around Toy Story Land.
13. Guests must be 38 inches or taller to ride Slinky Dog Dash.
14. The Slinky Dog Dash track and support columns weigh almost as much as 125,000 gallons of milk.
15. You would need a backpack the size of a school bus to carry the Buzz and Woody figures that tower over Toy Story Land.
16. Together, Rex and the Jenga Tower you see on the ride are as tall as 7½ Green Army Men standing on top of one another.
Food and fun
17. The place to eat is Woody’s Lunch Box, which looks like, well, a lunch box. This quick-service location will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. It will look as if it is being held up by an old thermos, and you will order your food through Tupperware windows.
18. You’ll be able to purchase Mini Babybel, the creamy, red-wax-wrapped cheese snacks, from the lunchbox.
19 You will be able to meet and take photos with Buzz Lightyear, Woody and Jessie.
