runDisney introduces Star Wars Virtual Half Marathon
runDisney is introducing another virtual race almost everyone can participate in for a medal – the Star Wars Virtual Half Marathon.
You can enter the virtual race from January 3 to February 28, 2018, but must complete 13.1 miles by March 31, 2018.
You can do it by running around your neighborhood or on a treadmill. It also does not need to be complete all at once. You can break up the 13.1 miles over multiple days. You can even download a digital race bib.
Plus, you can continue your Star Wars run by participating in the Star Wars Dark Side Half Marathon on April 22, 2018 at Disney World and earn a special Kessel Run Challenge medal.
As part of the registration process participants will have the opportunity to make a donation to Starlight Children’s Foundation on behalf of Star Wars: Force for Change. Starlight Children’s Foundation brings comfort to hospitalized children and their families through programs at children’s hospitals around the world.
The cost of the virtual half marathon is $59 and only those 14 years and older or eligible to register.
Disney first introduced a virtual running series in 2016. This summer event consists of three 5K challenges. One for June, July and August. Disney created these shorts to encourage people to move. Participants can run, walk, jog, take a stroll through a neighborhood or complete the race on a treadmill.
