Frozen’s Olaf is latest balloon in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
The snowman who likes warm hugs – yes, Olaf – will be soaring above New York City this year as part of the 91st annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
The “Frozen” star is getting the call to be one of the four new giant character balloons, USA Today reports.
“Having an Olaf balloon alongside Mickey, Elmo and Big Bird is a dream come true and something that, because (the parade’s) so storied and has such a long tradition, I now get to share with my own kids,” Gad told the newspaper.
Olaf joins a long list of Disney characters which have taken to the skies in during the parade.
A group of Disney balloons debuted in the 1934 parade with a 40-foot tall Mickey Mouse followed by a smaller Pluto balloon, a 34-foot-tall Big Bad Wolf, a 31-foot-tall Little Pig, and a 12 ½-foot-tall Horace Horsecollar.
Over the years more Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Muppet characters have appeared in the parade.
And in 1992 a Kermit, the Frog, Betty Boop, Santa Goofy and Humpty Dumpty balloons were on display on the old New York Street backlot at Hollywood Studios, which at the time was called Disney-MGM Studios at Disney World.
The parade will be broadcast Thanksgiving Day on NBC at 9 a.m. ET/PT
