Hurricane Irma update: Disney resort guests asked to remain in rooms

Disney World resort guests are being asked to remain in their rooms starting at 10 p.m. today (Sept. 10, 2017) as Hurricane Irma comes in full force into Central Florida.

“We are observing local curfews and now ask our Guests to stay at the resort hotel. . . In addition beginning at 10 p.m. Sept. 10 until the curfew is lifted, please remain in your room for your safety. Resort and in-room dining in unavailable. During this time, there will be no housekeeping services,” according to an announcement by Disney, tweeted out by @Diaryofhelen.

The request by Disney is following a normal protocol in an effort to keep guests safe.

Winds and rain around Disney World are starting to increase to Tropical Storm Force with wind gusts from 70 to 85 mph. The worst of the storm is expected to come around 2 a.m., according to forecasters. The area where Disney World is under a Tornado Watch until midnight.

A new forecast from the National Hurricane Center will be released at 11 p.m.
