6 things to know about Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes at Disneyland

Sights along the way include the backwoods of Frontierland, the wrought-iron railings of New Orleans Square and the peak of Chick-A-Pin Hill towering over Critter Country. And, a cool view of the Disneyland Railroad as it passes over five waterfalls.

Here are a half-dozen things you need to know about the attraction:

1. The canoes are 35-foot-long and powered entirely by guests and their paddles. 
2. The boats are modeled after the canoes used by early Native American and European explorers.
3. Before boarding, each passenger will receive a short tutorial on how to paddle. 
4. In the 1950s, Fess Parker, the star of the Davy Crockett TV series, was a frequent visitor to Disneyland. He has a shop window dedicated to him in Frontierland. 
5. The areas guests paddle though are based on Disney’s True Life Adventure films, such as Beaver Valley, Bear Country, Olympic Elk, and The Living Desert. 
6. The canoes follow the same path as the Sailing Ship Columbia and Mark Twain Riverboat around Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island
