Disney is shutting down its Disney Vacation Account in September

Disney is closing down its Disney Savings Account program after three and half years and is giving participants four ways to get their money back.

Disney unveiled the account in January 2014 to give people the opportunity to save for a vacation with Disney. At the time, it did not provide any interest in the savings, but gave a $20 gift card for every $1,000 paid for a vacation with the account.

Disney has not given any reason for discontinuing the program.

According to the Disney website, for those who have money in the program, Disney is offering four options on what to do with the money.

Option 1: You can exchange all the money into the account and purchase a Disney Gift Card by Sept. 27, 2017. Disney will add an extra 5 percent on the gift card or cards.

Option 2: You can use the money toward a Disney vacation. Disney also has a special offer here.

Option 3: Do nothing. Starting after Sept. 7, 2017, Disney will begin to close the account and process refunds. Disney will dos provide a bonus of 2 percent of the closing balance or $5 (whichever is greater).

Option 4. Request a refund before the refund process in Option 3 . While you will receive your unused balance, you will not be eligible for the bonus gift card.
